We manufacture a range of parts suitable for repair of the more common sizes of Landmatic, Landex and Lanco Die heads.
We also offer reconditioned Landis Die heads and associated equipment.
Advantages of Landis Die heads
- As there is no front plate threads can be cut very close to a shoulder.
- When one of the set of four chasers is damaged there is no need to regrind them all.
- The form of the thread is on the chasers, the diameter is determined by adjusting the head. This means that special threads are easier to achieve, as long as the chaser holders are of the correct helix angle.
- Landis die heads cut tangentially; so do not put pressure on the work piece. This makes them more suitable for cutting threads on tube.
Disadvantages of Landis Die heads
- The helix angle of the thread being cut is built into the chaser holders. This means that different sets of holders are required for coarse and fine threads, and for left hand threads.
- Landis die heads are generally expensive to maintain.
Types of Landis Die heads
- LANDMATIC Die heads are suitable for automatic or manual operation on turret lathes and automatic machines. They operate on a similar principle to Coventry Die heads by pulling open when the feed is stopped. Some variants have a push-off trip.
- LANDEX Die heads are rotary and are for use on automatic machines with live spindles. J type operates by pulling open, JN type are opened and closed by an external yoke.
- LANCO Die heads can be used on most types of machine; they cover a bigger range than Landmatic or Landex heads.
TANGENTIAL CHASERS
When ordering chasers for Landis die heads you need to specify the pitch, the dimensions of the chaser (or die head details), and the throat angle required.
Landis chasers are supplied with a standard 22 deg rake angle, for cutting mild steel, and a 20 deg throat angle.
Shorter throat angles and different rake angles are available for threading to shoulders and different materials.
Operating Landis Die heads
The same principles of operation apply to Landis die heads, as do those that apply to Coventry die heads, as do the troubleshooting tips. Landis die heads are more prone to problems due to incorrect chaser grinding, so if you are having problems always check these first. If you cannot overcome a problem give us a call, we would be glad to help.
